| ANNAPOLIS, MD USA-(19-8-2003) If you’re one of the thousands of women
sailors who have competed in the biennial Rolex International Women’s
Keelboat Championship (Rolex IWKC) over the past two decades, then the event
organizers want to hear from you. To mark the 20th anniversary of the world
’s premier regatta for women, US SAILING and the local organizing committee
based at the Annapolis Yacht Club in Maryland will commemorate those sailors
who have participated in the regatta at least five times.
“We want to recognize all the women out there who have contributed to the
success of this regatta,” said Denise MacGillivray, chairman of US SAILING’s
International Women’s Keelboat Championship Committee. “Everyone knows that
Betsy Alison has won the event five times out of nine, but to truly
celebrate the lesser-known women sailors who are just as dedicated to this
regatta, we thought it would be fun to put faces to all those names.”
A special commemoration ceremony will take place during the Rolex IWKC,
which is scheduled for September 27 October 3.
